Volkswagen Mk1 GTI

Few cars can claim responsibility for starting a long-term design quite like the first-generation Volkswagen GTI, which was the first ‘hot hatch’. Since the GTI launched in 1976, Volkswagen has tried with each successive model to replicate the thrill of the first GTI, which had a fuel-injected 1.6-liter inline four. From that little powerplant, the Mk1 GTI produces 110 horsepower, which by today’s standards sounds weak, but it’s more than enough to put a smile on your face.
